A Boxster Tale, Part 2

by Kamil August 20, 2010 Stories 4 Comments

dsc00527 Part two of The Boxster Tale.

I told my wife about the car and the story that her father, Michael, told me. She really wanted him to get the car and instructed me to convince him of that. I told her that he may have some reservations regarding the price. While the car is priced well, dumping almost twenty large out of savings for something you don’t entirely need ain’t exactly fun. … Continue Reading

A Boxster Tale

My phone rang on an early Saturday morning interrupting my oatmeal consumption. It was my father-in-law, Michael, and therefore I promptly ignored it. It rang again two minutes later, same number, and sensing urgency I answered. In a very excided way Michael begun describing that this mechanic in town which he goes to twice per year has this great Porsche for sale. I listened while desperately trying to prevent my eyes from rolling into the back of my head: “it’s a 2001, and it only has 14,000 miles on it, it’s a two-seater, it’s in great condition and he is asking $20,000 for it”. Despite my obvious efforts not to entertain this, Michael was insistent that I drive there and look at it. Fine. … Continue Reading

You have finally made it. It was a lot of hard work, it was making the right choices, probably being at the right place at the right time and, admit it, luck. You did whatever it took to get here, and finally you have arrived, Mr. Bigshot/CEO/President/Money Launderer/Entrepreneur/Thief/Golden Parachute Recipient/Inventor/Genius/Hedge Fund manager/Ponzi Scheme Person/E-list Actor/Blogger/Lottery Winner/Inventor of TopsyTail/etc, etc. You have your multi-million dollar house, paid off of course, boat, vacations, and all the other good stuff. Now, since everyone at the country club has one, you must get an exotic supercar. Yes, so you get the latest and greatest limited edition Italian with a dozen cylinders and stuff you could not possibly explain to anyone, but it doesn’t matter, because YOU have it and they don’t!

So…, now what?

Quick Drive: 2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder

by Kamil June 25, 2010 Quick Drives 6 Comments

Despite almost buying a ’99 Boxster, I was never a big fan of the model. I never loved the original’s 996-based looks and its stigma of being a Porsche for people who could not afford a 911 always bothered me.  It grew on me when the first generation Boxster S came out in 2000, but performance-for-dollar it still could not compete with the Honda S2000, a roadster I have always been in love with.

However, everything I thought I knew about the Boxster went out the window when I got to drive a 2011 Boxster Spyder. This is definitely not a cheaper version of the 911, nor is it cheap. Over the years the Boxster has grown up and looks to have firmly established its own identity; confident and mature too. … Continue Reading

Here in alphabetical order, in over a hundred pictures and more than 2400 words are my views on the 2010 New York international Auto Show. Enjoy and thanks for looking. … Continue Reading

The 1993-ish New York International Auto Show!!

by Kamil March 23, 2010 Opinion, Shows 6 Comments

new-york-auto-show-12 The New York International Auto Show, an event that I have been religiously attending for over twenty years. The show usually runs for ten days at the end of March. This year is the first year that I will be attending with an official media pass, which I am totally psyched about.

Before going see all the new 2011 cars this year, I thought it would be a good idea to reflect back. Even in my early teenage years I knew I wanted to write or talk about cars. Each year at the show I would take a ton of pictures with a cheap 35mm point-and-shoot camera and have them developed at a 1-hour photo as soon as I got back home. Being that the internet did not exist at the time, I found anyone and everyone I could to discuss the cars and my pictures with. It was brutal, no one escaped.

I scanned the following thirty-plus pictures from early- to mid-ninety’s New York Auto Show. Interesting concepts, new premiers (OMG, Eagle Talon TSi!!), race cars of the time and of course everyone’s favorite, the exotics. Enjoy. … Continue Reading

Let me start by saying that I really appreciate most cars. With each car I drive, I try to put all prejudices aside and enjoy it for what it is. I am not the Dalai Lama of cars, but you get the idea.

And now, like a complete hypocrite to the above, I say this: … Continue Reading
