Local Hero Goes For Rally Gold

by Kamil July 12, 2010 Stories 3 Comments

bacon-rally-motorsports-6 What do you want to be when you grow up?  The question all men are asked early in their childhoods. The answer is never a cubicle-bound paper-pusher.  At an early age all boys aspire to be someone great, someone heroic, someone inspirational such as a firefighter or a race-car driver. Sadly, most of us end up spending our days replying to email chains or sitting in meetings discussing the next fiscal budget.

Meet Bill Bacon, rally race-car driver for Bacon Motorsport Team and a professional firefighter from Chemsford, Massachusetts. In case his resume does not sound impressive enough add president, and the only employee, of a small garage door installation company. Just for good measure throw in race-car builder, fabricator, mechanic and the guy who sweeps the floor at the end of the day.

Babe Rally 2010

by Kamil June 7, 2010 Opinion No Comments

sc_000113 The 2010 BABE Rally has begun and team 99 Problems But a BABE Ain’t One is back! This year in place of their typical Volvo they are running (a piece of) American iron – a beautiful Chevy Celebrity! By the look of the grill it appears to be a rare early 1983-ish model. You may remember Sean’s (team captain) story of the 2009 rally and the sad end to an amazingly cool Volvo, remnants of which were spotted in Edgewater, NJ. … Continue Reading

are_you_18_yet_bmw

Yes, the license plate on this BMW says RU18YET. The fact that it is a BMW and the plates are from New Jersey (the southern part near the shore, FYI, not the awesome northern part where cool people live) is icing on the cake. I had a few ideas on what I want to say here… but I decided to have some reader participation.Looking for some captions or opinions. Go!

Thanks for the pic Mipster!

new-york-auto-show-2010-cover-1 There are many websites out there that will bring you the latest news on all things that occurred at the NYIAS. Here in alphabetical order, in over a hundred pictures and more than 2400 words are my views on the 2010 New York international Auto Show. Enjoy and thanks for looking. … Continue Reading

The 1993-ish New York International Auto Show!!

by Kamil March 23, 2010 Opinion, Shows 6 Comments

new-york-auto-show-12 The New York International Auto Show, an event that I have been religiously attending for over twenty years. The show usually runs for ten days at the end of March. This year is the first year that I will be attending with an official media pass, which I am totally psyched about.

Before going see all the new 2011 cars this year, I thought it would be a good idea to reflect back. Even in my early teenage years I knew I wanted to write or talk about cars. Each year at the show I would take a ton of pictures with a cheap 35mm point-and-shoot camera and have them developed at a 1-hour photo as soon as I got back home. Being that the internet did not exist at the time, I found anyone and everyone I could to discuss the cars and my pictures with. It was brutal, no one escaped.

I scanned the following thirty-plus pictures from early- to mid-ninety’s New York Auto Show. Interesting concepts, new premiers (OMG, Eagle Talon TSi!!), race cars of the time and of course everyone’s favorite, the exotics. Enjoy. … Continue Reading

Cars and Coffee!

It started off in California (where else?) and is now spreading like virus; a simple idea of car lovers gathering early on a Saturday morning, checking out some cars and chatting. No traffic jams, no minivans on the road, no non-carguys walking around asking dumb questions. Brilliant. … Continue Reading

The New General Motors

by Kamil October 7, 2009 Other No Comments

cover-custom I have mentioned in my Cadillac SRX and CTS Sport Wagon quick reviews that American automotive companies absolutely need to step up their game as soon as possible in order to survive. Not only do they need to have products that are comparable to the rest of the world, they also need to find a new way of marketing. On August 10th 2009, the new-post-bankruptcy General Motors did just that.
