2010 BMW 328i – An Inside Look

by Kamil July 8, 2010 Long Reviews 9 Comments

2010-bmw-328i-5 Until now my, exposure to the E90 chassis was rather limited; a quick drive in a friend’s 335i and a stint at the BMW Performance Driving School in an M3. Recently, however, I got to spend a weekend with a brand new 328i and I must say that it really frustrated me. It was the kind of maddening frustration that many teachers and few employers have expressed about me; I knew it could be so much more if it just tried a little harder, if it just paid attention to details and did not take the easy way out. … Continue Reading

Caption This – Are You 18 Yet?

by Kamil June 5, 2010 Random 10 Comments
are_you_18_yet_bmw

Yes, the license plate on this BMW says RU18YET. The fact that it is a BMW and the plates are from New Jersey (the southern part near the shore, FYI, not the awesome northern part where cool people live) is icing on the cake. I had a few ideas on what I want to say here… but I decided to have some reader participation.Looking for some captions or opinions. Go!

Thanks for the pic Mipster!

The Most Original E30 You Will Ever See!

by Kamil April 5, 2010 Stories 2 Comments

e30-325is-23 My friend Steve is shopping for a new car. Saturday morning he drags me out and makes me go look at some E39 M5. We get to Concord Motorsport somewhere in New Hampshire; a place that not only sales used cars but is also a maintenance and performance shop, as well as an authorized Dinan dealer.

We’re checking out the place and the two E39 M5′s they had in stock. I started chatting with the owner, Mike, about what an cool collection of cars they have for sale, including two E30 M3′s in very good condition, and how the market for E30s has been picking up and how difficult it is to find a non-rusted one. Mike says that he has a nice E30 in the garage and a 2002 race car that I maybe interested in. … Continue Reading

by Kamil January 21, 2010 Motorsport 1 Comment

turner-cover-1600x1200 There is only one answer to the age old question: what do you want to do when you grow up? That answer is “do what you love”. So what do you do when you love cars and movies? Simple, you do what what my friends Miguel Aponte-Rios and Baer Connard did – you start Veloz Media, a film production company specializing in motorsport programming.

Recently Turner Motorsport, a BMW performance shop and a race team, has contracted Veloz Media to do behind-the-scenes chronicle showcasing their efforts and journey in the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona race. Turner is entering this race with a new Riley-chassis race car powered by a 5-liter BMW V8 engine racing the GT Class. Below is a teaser video of the preparations going into the race as well as Turner/Veloz Media press release. Have a look, this promises to be an epic series of films. … Continue Reading

Solution to the Run-Flat Tire Problem

by Kamil January 7, 2010 Opinion 2 Comments
mini-cooper-spare-tire

In recent years many manufacturers, most notably BMW, have started installing run-flat tires on their new cars. Many people, mostly enthusiasts, have developed an instant animosity toward the run-flats due to the high replacement price, shortened life, quality issues, and increased unsprung weight which takes away from steering feel and handling.

Another issue on many new cars, such as the Mini Cooper, is simply the lack of proper space for a spare-tire. That however clearly did not stop the owner of the above Mini Cooper S. … Continue Reading

BMW_DKThe other day I get an email from a company that was hired by BMW to produce a series of short documentaries. The company is called DIGITALKITCHEN and the goal of the documentaries is to break down the existing BMW driver stereotypes and aim for an inspiring story or personality that revolves around BMW automobiles or motorcycles.

In order to accomplish this task, DIGITALKITCHEN is looking for a few good people – here is what they are asking for: … Continue Reading

by Kamil July 29, 2009 Motorsport 1 Comment

F1.08 coverIt was announced today that “The BMW Group will not continue its Formula One campaign after the end of the 2009 season.” Being a fan of the BMW brand, a fan of my countryman Robert Kubica, and having recently become a born-again F1 fan this is a very disappointing news for me.

Not all is bad however, as I was fortunate enough to have attend the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix. … Continue Reading

How “iPod Your BMW” Turned Into a Major iPain

by Steve Aschettino June 10, 2009 Product Reviews, Stories 2 Comments

The fall of 2004 was an exciting time in my life—I was a Bostonian living in Manhattan, and the Red Sox were about to win their first World Series in 86 years. I was a Sox fan, transplanted into the middle of Yankeeville, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the Red Sox pull off their stunning comeback against the Yankees.  I was lucky enough to attend one playoff game that fall at Yankee stadium, but the rest were watched from my studio apartment in Murray Hill. It was also in the fall of 2004 that BMW and Apple launched their huge “iPod your BMW” marketing campaign. … Continue Reading

BMW M Driving Experience (Driving School)

by Kamil May 1, 2009 Featured, Stories 3 Comments

When you spend around six figures on a car these days, manufacturers tend to do something nice for you, for instance: flowers, shirts, watches, chocolate, new transmission, ipods, umbrellas, key chains, etc. It varies by the price of the car, how much of a pain you were to deal with, and how much you’ve actually over-paid for the car itself. However, when you buy or lease a new BMW M5 or M6, you get something very different… Continue Reading
