Porsche’s new 7-Speed Manual Transmission Shift Pattern
By now you have heard that Porsche will offer a 7-speed manual transmission on the new 2012 Carrera 911, code-named 991. In case you wondered what the shift pattern will look like, wonder no more.
Some thoughts:
- I’ll bet that base Carrera will have a 6-speed transmission, whereas the 7-speed will come only on the Carrera S. Sort of like they did when the Cayman first came out: 5-speed in base Cayman, 6-speed in Cayman S.
- Why didn’t they just go with an eight-speed? I mean you know someone will, what with all that “space” “under” the seventh gear.
- What will the be cost of a “money shift“? Will it be included in the price of the car? Perhaps you could get the first money-shift for free?
- What will be the RPM at 60mph in 7th gear? 1000rpm? 1500? 2000? I don’t think I will be able to sleep tonight…
