New Way of Buying Cars

4703 320x320 cargurus New Way of Buying Cars When looking to buy just about anything these days, internet is the way to go. Internet is Winning! Internet has only one speed – GO! Except when it comes to shopping for cars… well, in that case the internet is losing. Allow me to explain.

There are about a dozen big car websites that advertise new and used cars. If you are looking for a particular model of a certain era, all you have to do is plug in your data and bam, you get the results. Sort of. You get 400 cars with prices ranging from almost nothing (scam!) to ridiculously high (certified, inspected, loved, with free coffee). And then you have to repeat that same procedure eleven more times and obtain the same results. In addition you still don’t know the going market value is. Well, now there is a better way…

Getting Ready for One Lap of America

4699 320x500 535cover Getting Ready for One Lap of America

One Lap of America is an eight-day driving endurance race created by Brock Yates. Reading this you probably already know that it started as free-for-all run from New York City to Redondo Beach, California in the 1970’s and inspired a handful of movies. You also probably know that these days it is a more disciplined event where racing takes place on tracks and public roads are used only as means of getting form one location to the next.

Much like me, at one point you probably also wanted to enter One Lap of America. You are still confident that your mad driving skillz and even madder car tuning, modification, and repair skillz would totally pwn all those suckas and their jalopies. Right.

Talk is cheap for Justin Kababik, who in 2000 entered his first One Lap with a stock-ish ’89 BMW 535i. He loved the event so much that he entered again One Lap again in 2001 and 2002, each time modifying his 535i accordingly for faster lap times. Sadly the M30 motor did not like the pressurized air much and blew up on the first lap of the first event in 2002. D’oh!

First Lexus LFA Ever Sold Goes Out For a Sunday Drive

4633 320x240 lfafront First Lexus LFA Ever Sold Goes Out For a Sunday Drive

You read that right, the first Lexus LFA sold to a paying customer anywhere in the world made an appearance at a popular Atlanta-based car meet called Caffeine and Octane.  The people that attend this show are always treated to some nice cars, but the rare appearance of Lexus’ $375,000 super car was without a doubt the highlight of this month’s meet.

The owner, who was just as much of a down-to-earth car lover as the rest of us, was kind enough to fill me in on the details of his LFA, including how the VIN reveals it’s only the 3rd production LFA ever built (cars number 1 and 2 are reportedly in safe hands with the Toyoda family) and the first in the United States. His hyper Lexus was so new, it had been picked up only 12 hours before the event, and the drive to it was its  first time out since being driven home from the dealership. … Continue Reading

There’s something about politicians and license plates, they can’t stop messing with them. In Washington state, where you might think the Legislature would be preoccupied with a gaping $4.6 billion hole in the budget, lawmakers still have managed to take up more than a dozen bills this year that deal with car or motorcycle license plates.

Another month, another Auto Show. This time it’s the Miami of Canada, Chicago. While it is far from being the biggest auto show in North America, it is the one that supposedly gets the most traffic, perhaps because chitowners often spend so much time in traffic. Because of this traffic auto manufacturers decided to show off a lot of new models here.

Once again we were NOT at the show and therefore missed out on the free food, corporate swag and drinks with company VPs. However, via the magic of interwebs we are bringing you some pictures, important details, and justified opinion on the cars that are at the show.
