This being my first concours attendance I was expecting to see a ton of older rich, cigar smoking guys with British vintage cars. I was expecting them to drive through the center of the gathering, applaud themselves, drink liquor, and later congratulate themselves for something and go home with their trophy wives.

.

Unfortunately what I have seen was a gathering of a bunch of random cars that I have already seen. In between the 1930′s Bentleys were current Lamborghinis, few 1980′s odd balls and a ton of 50′s and 60′s Germans. Not a bad gathering, but I just wasn’t blown away by anything, even the yellow Enzo. Perhaps I’m just getting old?

In lieu of photographing more of the same cars, I have decided to try something different. In these pictures I have focused on the details that make these old automobiles so appealing. Everything on these older cars was designed out of necessity and function. There were no design or engineering standards, and there was no government bodies to tell the manufacturer how and where to position anything. Additionally, there was no blatant copying of designs or engineering solutions from one manufacturer to another as it simply was not possible until the car was on the market.

I hope you like the pictures, they are all purely experimental. One of these days I’ll take a photography course.

The only one that wowed me at the show was the Hispano Suiza. Of course, you’re not including the SLS AMG and the Audi A8 that were on display, right?

There was a Dusenberg there! Great location. I enjoyed it.
