Jeremy,
On hilly and winding road with speed between 40mph and 80mph (think Merritt Parkway in CT), the auto-equipped 335d felt great. The automatic transmission was best left to do its own thinking, because in manual mode the shifting is slow (compared to, say SMG) and the transmission down-shifts and up-shifts by itself anyway, even in auto mode. What adds to the fun factor is power of this engine; it just goes, at any speed. Once you press that pedal you won’t really care what gear you’re in as the power is just there, at any rpm, really. There is no need to down-shift, you don’t need to be in the right gear, at the right rpm… just press the gas pedal and it goes.

Kamil,
Thanks for this! The more said the better about BMW's efforts to bring quality diesel products to the US. I was curious to know if you felt at any misgivings about the lack of a manual transmission option for the sedan. Does the automatic (manumatic) still preserve the "fun factor"?
