This year in place of their typical Volvo they are running (a piece of) American iron – a beautiful Chevy Celebrity! By the look of the grill it appears to be a rare early 1983-ish model. You may remember Sean’s (team captain) story of the 2009 rally and the sad end to an amazingly cool Volvo, remnants of which were spotted in Edgewater, NJ. … Continue Reading

Flooded Hoboken, Traffic Chaos, Dumb People

March 15, 2010 Opinion 1 Comment

Watch this video, just patiently watch it. The road straight ahead is closed due to flooding. There are clear barricades blocking the road which are suppose to prevent people from entering. People however don’t like to be told what to do. Pete is their leader.

Video was found of youtube by my best bud Vinny. Commentary is pretty priceless, I want to be friends with that guy.

Solution to the Run-Flat Tire Problem

January 7, 2010 Opinion 7 Comments
1742 665x540 mini cooper spare tire Solution to the Run Flat Tire Problem

In recent years many manufacturers, most notably BMW, have started installing run-flat tires on their new cars. Many people, mostly enthusiasts, have developed an instant animosity toward the run-flats due to the high replacement price, shortened life, quality issues, and increased unsprung weight which takes away from steering feel and handling.

Another issue on many new cars, such as the Mini Cooper, is simply the lack of proper space for a spare-tire. That however clearly did not stop the owner of the above Mini Cooper S. … Continue Reading

CTS-V Challenge is on Speed TV

December 8, 2009 Opinion No Comments

No, I still do not have a write up from the event, but you can catch the special on Speed TV tonight at 9:30pm EST. I’d assume it will me more of a Cadillac infomercial than anything, but you will see my friend Mike talking and driving. The show will show what GM wants you to see and not what really happened, but we still had time and that’s what matters. If you miss it, don’t sweat it, they will rerun it.

TopGear Season 13 300x215 Season 14 of TopGear in on BBC...…but how can you watch it in the United States? After all BBC America, as much as I love it, will not show us a show that’s less than a season old. Say hello to the internet!

Check out FinalGear.com where you can not only find the latest episodes of TopGear, but all the episodes ever made. Furthermore, you can also find there all the episodes of TopGear Australia as well as Fifth Gear. The website features a pretty detail description of each and every episode and provides constant updates on anything related to these shows. If you happen to live under a rock and still don’t know how to get the show, here is how:

Ford versus Chevy, Like Never Before

October 30, 2009 Opinion 3 Comments

1564 330x260 dsc 0468 Ford versus Chevy, Like Never Before Like it or not, the world of automobiles is changing. It is a common belief amongst some that the automobile is due for a revolution. Some say that the internal combustion engine is a crude device whose time has come, that it is a pollutant, that it makes us dependent on foreign oil, and that it kills polar bears.

Within the last few years the U.S. Government began a strong push toward electric vehicles and auto manufacturers have complied. Recently I had the opportunity to get a glimpse at our future by checking out the latest electric prototypes from Ford and Chevrolet. … Continue Reading

Miata Search Continues. Pulp Reality Hits.

July 27, 2009 Opinion 2 Comments

3n33ke3o1ZZZZZZZZZ97r94d2f0d6434d1c78 Miata Search Continues. Pulp Reality Hits.

I have thought about this Miata for quite some time. For $2500 this was not awful. The engine pulled well, but the smell of coolant and smoke out the exhaust was not sitting well with me. Did I mention how well the thing handled? In fact, the handling almost made me forget the other little things, such as the potentially bad head-gasket and the rotting body.

Yes, Miata hunt continues, albeit with very frustrating results. This weekend I have looked at a ’94 model with popular equipment: power steering, power windows, LSD, A/C, etc., all stuff that I want because it will make living with the car easier. Many Miata lovers and track junkies despise power options saying that they add weight and complexity, and that with power steering you lose some feel. Whatever, maybe I’m lazy, maybe I have owned too many cars without these things, but I want them. I have also spend some time over-analyzing this purchase, and have made some key decisions.

Miata Search Begins!

July 6, 2009 Opinion 3 Comments

miata1 Miata Search Begins!I’m losing it. I NEED a car of my own! While I may have been doing a ton of car related stuff lately, at this point I really don’t have a car that I can call my own. The MDX is great family vehicle; big, comfortable, and reliable, but it is nothing more than a minivan with AWD and extra ground clearance; it is an appliance, often borrowed by various family members. The nice part is that I don’t really care about it getting dirty, scratched, dented, spilled-in, etc., that is why I bought it.

What I want is something cheap that I can autocross or take to the track, even if once a year. I often need a car to shoot down to NYC/NJ for a day and I don’t want to leave my wife without a car. Parking is a problem for me, but once I buy the car I’ll just start begging people to let me park it at their homes (I live in downtown Boston, and parking here is really pricey). … Continue Reading
