Sunny-Side Up Niçoise Salad

by Mipster February 20, 2010 Opinion 1 Comment

mip1cover A good recipe combines easy to obtain ingredients in unusual fashion, plays up the strengths of individual contributions, and results in something greater than a mere sum of its parts.  Sweet and sour, soft and crunchy, hot and cold; each flavor, texture, and temperature should play a role of contrasting, balancing, or enhancing the overall result. What follows, hopefully, is a good step-by-step recipe for a memorable rendezvous. … Continue Reading

Solution to the Run-Flat Tire Problem

by Kamil January 7, 2010 Opinion 2 Comments
mini-cooper-spare-tire

In recent years many manufacturers, most notably BMW, have started installing run-flat tires on their new cars. Many people, mostly enthusiasts, have developed an instant animosity toward the run-flats due to the high replacement price, shortened life, quality issues, and increased unsprung weight which takes away from steering feel and handling.

Another issue on many new cars, such as the Mini Cooper, is simply the lack of proper space for a spare-tire. That however clearly did not stop the owner of the above Mini Cooper S. … Continue Reading

CTS-V Challenge is on Speed TV

by Kamil December 8, 2009 Opinion No Comments

No, I still do not have a write up from the event, but you can catch the special on Speed TV tonight at 9:30pm EST. I’d assume it will me more of a Cadillac infomercial than anything, but you will see my friend Mike talking and driving. The show will show what GM wants you to see and not what really happened, but we still had time and that’s what matters. If you miss it, don’t sweat it, they will rerun it.

Season 14 of TopGear in on BBC…

by Kamil November 29, 2009 Opinion 1 Comment

TopGear Season 13…but how can you watch it in the United States? After all BBC America, as much as I love it, will not show us a show that’s less than a season old. Say hello to the internet!

Check out FinalGear.com where you can not only find the latest episodes of TopGear, but all the episodes ever made. Furthermore, you can also find there all the episodes of TopGear Australia as well as Fifth Gear. The website features a pretty detail description of each and every episode and provides constant updates on anything related to these shows. If you happen to live under a rock and still don’t know how to get the show, here is how:

Ford versus Chevy, like never before

by Kamil October 30, 2009 Opinion 2 Comments

dsc_0468 Like it or not, the world of automobiles is changing. It is a common belief amongst some that the automobile is due for a revolution. Some say that the internal combustion engine is a crude device whose time has come, that it is a pollutant, that it makes us dependent on foreign oil, and that it kills polar bears.

Within the last few years the U.S. Government began a strong push toward electric vehicles and auto manufacturers have complied. Recently I had the opportunity to get a glimpse at our future by checking out the latest electric prototypes from Ford and Chevrolet. … Continue Reading

Miata Search Continues. Pulp Reality Hits.

by Kamil July 27, 2009 Opinion 2 Comments

I have thought about this Miata for quite some time. For $2500 this was not awful. The engine pulled well, but the smell of coolant and smoke out the exhaust was not sitting well with me. Did I mention how well the thing handled? In fact, the handling almost made me forget the other little things, such as the potentially bad head-gasket and the rotting body.

Yes, Miata hunt continues, albeit with very frustrating results. This weekend I have looked at a ’94 model with popular equipment: power steering, power windows, LSD, A/C, etc., all stuff that I want because it will make living with the car easier. Many Miata lovers and track junkies despise power options saying that they add weight and complexity, and that with power steering you lose some feel. Whatever, maybe I’m lazy, maybe I have owned too many cars without these things, but I want them. I have also spend some time over-analyzing this purchase, and have made some key decisions.

Miata Search Begins!

by Kamil July 6, 2009 Opinion 3 Comments

miata1I’m losing it. I NEED a car of my own! While I may have been doing a ton of car related stuff lately, at this point I really don’t have a car that I can call my own. The MDX is great family vehicle; big, comfortable, and reliable, but it is nothing more than a minivan with AWD and extra ground clearance; it is an appliance, often borrowed by various family members. The nice part is that I don’t really care about it getting dirty, scratched, dented, spilled-in, etc., that is why I bought it.

What I want is something cheap that I can autocross or take to the track, even if once a year. I often need a car to shoot down to NYC/NJ for a day and I don’t want to leave my wife without a car. Parking is a problem for me, but once I buy the car I’ll just start begging people to let me park it at their homes (I live in downtown Boston, and parking here is really pricey). … Continue Reading

Lotus proactive

Several years ago my friend Bob Knox introduced me to a little known car magazine. The magazine is published by just-auto.com for Lotus Engineering. Well written, the magazine has a very succinct approach to automotive industry news overall and goes deeper into the happenings at Lotus. proActive also features interviews with technology group leaders as well as many interesting aspects of the automotive industry which are often transparent to the average person. … Continue Reading

My Favorite Cars (updated)

by Kamil April 28, 2009 Opinion, Stories 3 Comments

ilovecar3

Let me start by saying that I really appreciate most cars. With each car I drive, I try to put all prejudices aside and enjoy it for what it is. I am not the Dalai Lama of cars, but you get the idea.

And now, like a complete hypocrite to the above, I say this: … Continue Reading

Project ET-001: BMW M62 4.4L V8 Engine

I still remember the day I saw the first one. It was a nice early spring day in 1997 and I was in walking around near Battery Park in downtown Manhattan. There in the corner of my eye I saw it; jet black, on its three-piece wheels which came only on the models with six-speed [...]

Driving Jaguar’s new XFR, on the Road and on the Track

I have recently had the opportunity to drive the new Jaguar XFR on the road and on a race track. With the XFR competing directly against the BMW M5, which I have also had the opportunity to drive on the track and on the street, it only made sense to evaluate the XFR while using [...]

Cars of Paris

French cars; some say they’re ugly, some say they’re beautiful, all agree that they’re unreliable. However, there is something about them that makes you want to look. These pictures were taken in March of 2007, my wife’s and mine last trip before the birth of our daughter. Selected for your viewing pleasure are not only [...]
